A limnologist sieves a sample of sediments from Cutler Reservoir, Utah. The bucket has a 500 um (0.5 mm) mesh on the bottom so that the smallest sediments can be washed away. The remaining benthic invertebrates (insects, snails, worms, etc.) or organic material will subsequently be preserved and analyzed in the laboratory.
