Description: Cyanobacteria bloom extensively in Clear Lake, California (USA). The lake receives heavy nutrient loading from both natural and anthropogenic sources. It is shallow and thus mixes frequently (polymictic). Consequently,nutrients recycle extensively, thus supporting repeated blooms of these nuisance algae.
