Research Vessel Pelican at ASLO in New Orleans

The R/V Pelican will be at the dock for the ASLO meeting on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Any ASLO attendee may visit the ship between 8 am and 8 pm. Please see the R/V Pelican page for more information or to schedule a classroom trip.

Sunday Opening Session & Mixer

When making your travel plans, please be aware that the opening session will begin at 16:00 on Sunday, 17 February. You will not want to miss this. Following a brief welcome and opening remarks by ASLO President John Downing, the session will include a presentation by Richard Campanella, a geographer and senior professor of practice, Tulane School of Architecture, Tulane University. His presentation, “New Orleans: A Historical Geography, 1700s to 2000s,” will be illustrated to explain the formation of the Mississippi Delta, the settlement and early development of New Orleans all the way through the circumstances that led to the Katrina debacle. The A.C. Redfield Lifetime Achievement Award also will be presented during the opening session on Sunday. The Mixer Reception will kick off with a traditional New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian Show

New! Mentoring Program

ASLO will offer a mentoring program at the Aquatic Sciences Meeting in New Orleans. Designed for novice meeting attendees, students, or early career scientists, mentees will be matched one-on-one with an experienced scientist who can help mentees navigate the meeting. You may indicate your interest in being a mentor or a mentee when you register for the meeting. If you have any questions, please contact Bob Chen at bob.chen@umb.edu.

About the Event

ASLO is returning to the Big Easy for the first time since 1990!  The Aquatic Sciences Meeting will be held on February 17-22, 2013, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Situated at the junction between the Mississippi River and the Gulf, the city of New Orleans is an ideal location to celebrate aquatic sciences. Under the theme “Learning for the Future,”the meeting will bring together scientists, engineers, students, educators, policy makers and other stakeholders to learn from the past and look to the future of aquatic sciences.
