THE REDISTRIBUTION OF OPTICAL PROPERTIES DURING STORMS IN THE MID-ATLANTIC BIGHT
As part of the NAVY sponsored Coastal Mixing and Optics (CMO) program we measured optical properties in the Mid-Atlantic Bight. The optical properties contain information about the distribution of phytoplankton in the water column. Two cruises were conducted and major storms passed through the area during each sampling period. One cruise was in the August 1996, and we sampled before and after the passage of Hurricane Edouard. The second cruise was during the spring of 1997 and we sampled during several spring storms. We look at the importance of storms in determining the vertical distribution of optical, and hence biological, material in the water.
