BIOCHEMICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATIONS IN DIAPAUSING CRUSTACEANS
Diapause as a part of annual cycle in crustaceans is characterized by a physiological rest of an organism determined by hormonal activity. In diapausing organism the enzyme system is the main executor of the hormonal program. The link "hormones-enzymes-physiological functions is traced for several crustacean species with embrional, larval and imaginal
types of diapause. Dramatic changes in enzime activity, lipid concentration, as well as in metabolism, growth, feeding and movement activities during the five stages of diapause are indicated and their roles in bioenergetic budget of natural crustacean populations are valued. New experimental data on explanation of the internal mechanism of diapause in crustaceans are discussed.
