CHARACTERISTICS OF A ZOOPLANKTON SOURCE REGION DURING SPRING 1997 ON GEORGES BANK
Plankton distributions, hydrography, and bio-optical parameters of the water column were sampled during spring 1997 on and near Georges Bank as part of the US GLOBEC program in order to study inputs and losses of zooplankton (primarily the copepod Calanus finmarchicus)on the Bank. The northeast portion of the Bank was a potential source region for Calanus. This area was complex with different abundances and lifestage proportions occurring in close proximity and associated with different hydrographic regimes. Analyses are underway to characterize this region and elucidate its influence on the Bank ecosystem.
