SELECTION OF PHYTOPLANKTON ASSEMBLAGES ACROSS THE TROPHIC SPECTRUM
The relationship of phytoplankton species composition and biomass to environmental factors across the trophic spectrum is evaluated. Data used originate mainly from European temperate lakes but include subtropical and tropical examples from Asia and Latin-America. Deep-stratifying systems as well as polymictic shallow lakes both turbid and clear are incorporated. Using habitat templates according to Reynolds and other approaches the hypothesis 'Can limnetic assemblages be defined' is tested.
