To encourage participation among local students in Puerto Rico, ASLO along with the organizers of the 2011 Aquatic Sciences Meeting in San Juan have initiated local student grants available to members of ASLO who are full-time students enrolled at a university or college in Puerto Rico.
Twenty-five (25) local students will receive awards in the amount of $250 USD each to defray the cost of registration for the meeting. Recipients of the grant will be notified by Monday, 4 October 2010. A special registration code will be given to grant recipients so that the registration fee will be waived, and they can register and submit their abstract through the online system before the abstract submission deadline of midnight (23:59 U.S. Central Time) on 11 October 2010. The grant covers the meeting registration fee only. Students will be required to pay the abstract submission fee of $60 USD.

Please note that if a student receives a local student grant, he or she will not be eligible to apply for a student travel award. However, if a student applies for a local award but is not selected, he or she may apply for a student travel award if as long as her or she meets the eligibility criteria.
