Hotel Expenses
Since San Juan is a prime vacation location, it does come with slightly higher hotel costs. Most of the hotels in the city levy what is known as a Resort or Hotel Fee usually in the 8% to 17% range. Each hotel provides various amenities which are included in this fee, but the fee with the exception of the Intercontinental Hotel, is mandatory. In addition to this fee, some of the hotels, as a result of union negotiation, charge a one-time round-trip bellman gratuity ($5.00 to $5.25) and a daily housekeeping/maid gratuity of usually $.50 per person per day. A few of the hotels in the ASLO Block (Marriott Courtyard, Intercontinental ,and Verdanza) have agreed to make the bellman and maid gratuities voluntary, so be sure to check in advance if this is of concern.
