Sustainable Travel Practices
Conserving natural resources, supporting local cultures, and making a positive impact on the places we visit – all key components for traveling responsibly. As with other recent ASLO-sponsored gatherings, organizers for the 2009 Aquatic Sciences Meeting are very conscious of the negative impact that meetings can have on our environment. We are making substantial efforts to reduce the environmental impacts of this meeting, and we will detail those efforts in the conference program. All conference attendees are urged to support our efforts and check with their hotel in Nice about their recycling and environmental impact policies.
We encourage you to make the following all habits when you travel*:
- Reuse bed linens and towels to conserve water and cleaning supplies.
- Turn off the lights and turn down the thermostat when leaving your room for the day.
- Take public transportation instead of driving
- Rent a hybrid car, bike or walk when you can.
- Bring your own nightlight rather than leave a hotel light burning all night.
- Pass your newspaper on to someone else when you are done
- Use electronic airfare ticketing and paperless express checkout at the hotel to save paper.
- Don’t buy souvenirs made from ivory, tortoiseshell or anything that once belonged to an endangered species.

Organizers for the 2009 Aquatic Sciences Meeting are endeavoring to bring conference attendees and participants to Nice in the spirit of true geotourism.
