Publication Charges
Charges to authors represent only a portion of the incremental cost of publishing one article (average cost $596). Before a manuscript can enter the review process, authors must agree that they will pay the following publication charges if their manuscript is accepted:
Manuscripts submitted after January 1, 2008
A simplified cost structure was put in place on January 1, 2008. All accepted manuscripts will incur charges of $50 per full or partial page in the final PDF file, including any web appendices, if either the lead author or the corresponding author is an ASLO member. If neither lead or corresponding author is an ASLO member, the charge is $75 per page.
Manuscripts submitted before January 1, 2008
- $53 for each composed page or fraction of page; there is no charge for the first 10 pages. There are about 3 double-spaced manuscript pages per composed page, including graphics.
- $5 surcharge for each table; a table that continues onto a second page counts as two tables. There is no charge for the first two tables.
- $10 for each figure; there is no charge for the first three figures.
- An additional $8 for each figure that must be edited by composition services in order to bring it up to journal standards.
- Multimedia and other supplementary files are charged at $10 each.
- For composition of pages requiring a non-standard layout, the charge is $26 per page plus $60 per hour.
- For changes in proof that are not related to errors in composition, the charge is $55 per hour.
