Graduate Student Assistantships, Microbial Ecology
Two graduate assistantships at the MS or PhD level are available to study the ecology of marine microbes. The positions will begin in May 2010 in the Marine Microbial Ecology Lab (www.mmel.disl.org) in the Marine Science department of the University of South Alabama (www.southalabama.edu/marinesciences). Both positions will apply molecular techniques to understanding the ecology of marine microbes. One position will focus on tracking potential sources of water contamination in a coastal lagoon. The second position will be focused on quantifying the flow of nitrogen in association with oyster restoration.
Research will be based at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (www.disl.org), located south of Mobile, AL. Applicants should have a BS in biology, ecology or marine science with a GPA of at least 3.0 or a MS in a related field. A GRE score of 1100 is required.
Interested students should contact Dr. Alice Ortmann (aortmann@disl.org) or 251-861-7526 for more information about the position and applying.
