Student Opportunity Announcements
Graduate Student Assistantship, Deep Sea Microbiology
A PhD student position is available in the Department of
Marine Sciences at the University of Georgia to study the
biogeochemistry and microbiology of seafloor brine habitats
in the Gulf of Mexico. The project involves integrated studies
of seafloor brine pools and mud volcanoes that occur along
the continental slope of the Gulf of Mexico. The position
includes opportunities for international student exchange in
the laboratories of Dr. Kai-Uwe Hinrichs (Organic
Geochemistry; Bremen, Germany) and/or Drs. Kirsten Habicht,
Bo Thamdrup, and Donald Canfield (Sulfur Biogeochemistry;
Odense, Denmark). The selected student should have at least
B.Sc. degree and a strong background in Environmental
Sciences, Microbiology and/or Geochemistry. Laboratory and
field experience is desirable and the candidate should be able
to work both independently and as a team member. Qualified
