MSc Assistantship, Stream Ecology
The successful applicant will conduct a 2-3 year research project to evaluate the reach-scaled variability of mussel assemblages and sampling sufficiency in Illinois wadeable streams. The project is a cooperative effort with the IL Department of Natural Resources and will involve field and laboratory work to collect samples, identify mussel species, and analyzing the data.
The successful applicant should have interests in freshwater mussel ecology, be highly motivated & self-organized, and should be able to work independently in the field and lab. Experiences in mussel identifications and biostatistics will be assets. Minimum academic qualifications include a B.S. in fisheries, ecology, zoology, or closely related field, 1100+ on the GRE's combined verbal and quantitative, 4.5 on the analytical writing, and a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 system). $1,500 per month for 11-month plus tuition waiver and benefit.
