MSc & PhD positions in Lake Erie Limnolog
Several graduate student positions (Master's or PhD) are available to
work on an interdisciplinary, multi-institutional project aimed at
studying the coupling between physical-hydrodynamic and biogeochemical
processes in Lake Erie with a particular focus on the formation of
hypolimnetic hypoxia.
The team includes university scientists Joe Ackerman
(ackerman@uoguelph.ca, Integrative Biology, University of Guelph),
Leon Boegman (Leon.Boegman@civil.queensu.ca, Civil Engineering,
Queen's University), Kevin Lamb (kglamb@uwaterloo.ca, Applied
Mathematics) and Ralph Smith (rsmith@sciborg.uwaterloo.ca, Biology,
University of Waterloo), as well as government scientists, with
expertise in numerical modelling, physical limnology, biology and
bio-geochemisty.
The project includes an intensive field program coupled with
high-resolution numerical modelling. Positions for graduate students
are available to work on projects involving various combinations of
numerical modelling (fluid dynamics, biogeochemical modelling,
sediment transport), field work (pelagic and benthic sampling,
instrumentation) and data analysis, and the development of models to
synthesize results of the field work and modelling.
Students should have interest and expertise in physical and biological
limnology, oceanography, numerical modelling, aquatic biology and/or
biogeochemistry. For more information please contact Dr. Kevin Lamb,
Department of Applied Mathematics, University of Waterloo, Waterloo,
ON, Canada N2L 3G1 via email: kglamb@uwaterloo.ca
