Laboratory Technician

Collect and analyze samples for
environmental and ecological studies including field work in remote areas.  Analyze samples including chemical or biological
characterization, followed by entry of data into a computer database.  Perform statistical and graphical analysis on
data.  Participate in the preparation of
research proposals and manuscripts for publication.


A suitable candidate should posses
a Bachelor’s degree in a natural science discipline such as biology, chemistry,
or environmental sciences, plus the ability to translate, adapt and apply this
knowledge.  Experience in field
collection of environmental samples in remote areas under difficult conditions
is desired, along with a demonstrated ability for detailed, high quality
chemical analyses of these samples. Must show evidence of skill in computer
entry and analysis including graphics. In addition, desired qualifications
include experience working in remote areas of the Arctic,
operating and coordinating a research collection and analysis program with
minimal supervision, and experience using the following instruments:  TOC analyzer, ALPKEM autoanalyzer, CHN analyzer,
gas chromatography.

This position requires moderately strenuous field work in the Arctic (hiking with full packs over tundra) and in occasionally
inclement weather.  This position
requires 10-12 weeks during the summer to be spent at the Alaska field site.
