Postdoctoral Research Associate-Arctic Limnology
The Climate Change Institute at the University of Maine has an opening for a full-time postdoctoral research associate in Arctic limnology and diatom ecology. Specifically, the research will focus on deciphering how changing lake thermal structure in West Greenland lakes affects diatom community structure. Research methods will include both comparative lake sampling and a whole-lake mixing experiment.
Annual salary is $41,000 and includes full university benefits. Start date is negotiable, but targeted for May 2013 as fieldwork begins at the end of that month. Funding is available for 18 months, contingent upon successful performance, and with a possibility of extension.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in ecology or related field, with experience conducting research in lakes; experience with standard limnological sampling methods; ability to work in a remote location for extended periods of time; ability to backpack in to remote locations with field equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team; demonstrated ability to conduct advanced statistical analyses and develop manuscripts; must have successfully completed all requirements for a Ph.D. degree at time of appointment. Experience with phytoplankton/diatom taxonomy and/or whole-lake experiments preferred.
