Faculty Position - Coastal Benthic Ecology
The Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) invites applications for a faculty position in Coastal Benthic Ecology. We seek an individual who uses observational and experimental approaches to study benthic systems (e.g., submerged aquatic vegetation, coral reefs, wetlands, meiofaunal communities), scaling from population to ecosystem levels and who can bring skills that would complement the existing faculty. Some examples of skill sets sought are quantitative modeling, climate change research and hydrodynamic-biological coupling, but other sets will also be entertained. We expect to hire at the level of Senior Marine Scientist I (equivalent to Assistant Professor); exceptional candidates may be considered at a higher rank. Duties include establishing and maintaining a productive research program, teaching an undergraduate summer course in Marine Ecology, one graduate course per year and advising graduate students. Competitive start-up funding is available. A PhD must be completed prior to the start date. Post-doc experience is highly preferred. For more information on DISL see www.disl.org. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research interests and teaching philosophy, 2-3 selected reprints and the names and contact information (including email addresses) of 3 references to the Senior Marine Scientist Search Committee (smssearch@disl.org). Applications can also be sent through regular mail to Just Cebrian, Chair of Marine Science Search Committee, DISL, 101 Bienville Blvd., Dauphin Island, AL 36528. Review of applications will begin December 1, 2012 and will continue until the positions are filled. DISL is an EOE/AA/M/F/D employer.
