Position Announcements
Postdoc for fisheries
One postdoc positions open in the Institute of Oceanography,
National Taiwan University.
We are seeking one postdoctoral scientist to work in the
Institute of Oceanography, National Taiwan University, for one
year and possibly further extension for three years. The
research goal is to investigate “Synergistic effects of fishing
and climate on the dynamics of exploited stocks- comparative
studies across ecosystems.”
The position can start as early as Sep 1st, 2012. The scientific
objectives include: 1) To manage and update the compiled
fisheries data across ecosystems. The existing database was
compiled from fisheries assessments reports and scientific
surveys, including time series of population abundance
indices and recruitment, fishing mortality, age and size
structure, as well as life history traits. The ecosystems so far
include the Japan Sea, Golf of Alaska, west and east coast of
US, and ICES region. 2) To carry out data analysis and
investigate the population dynamics of exploited species in
response to fishing and climate, with especially the concern
on the fishing effects on size/age structure of exploited
fishes. Applicants with experience on quantitative ecology,
advanced statistics, or fisheries will be given priority. Strong
quantitative skills are preferred. This project is an
international cooperative work with scientists from Taiwan,
Japan, USA, and Europe. Application will remain open until
suitable candidate is found. To apply, please send detailed CV
with past research experience to Chih-hao Hsieh
(chsieh@ntu.edu.tw). Additional information concerning the
research of the PI can be found in the following website:
