Position Announcements
Post-doctoral scientist in estuarine microbial ecology and metatranscriptomics.
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Horn Point Laboratory,
Cambridge, MD, is seeking a post-doctoral scientist to work with Dr. Byron Crump on an NSF-
funded research project entitled “Life in the Dead Zone: microbial respiration, production,
diversity and gene expression in seasonally anoxic estuarine waters.” This project will
characterize succession in microbial community composition, gene expression and respiratory
metabolism following the loss of oxygen in Chesapeake Bay bottom waters. Applicants should
have a Ph.D. in oceanography, microbiology, bioinformatics, or related fields with experience
in interdisciplinary research and an interest in ecology and ecosystem science. Candidates with
field research experience and a strong background in microbiology, bioinformatics, and
metagenomic/metatranscriptome analysis are encouraged to apply. Salary will be
commensurate with experience (~$40K/year plus benefits). Position begins after March, 2010.
The initial appointment is for 1-year with re-appointments of up to 2 more years, contingent
