Research Technician Position in Trace Metal Analysis
A research technician position is available immediately in the Mercury/Microbial Ecology Laboratory at SERC. We are looking for an experienced BS- or MS-level trace metal analyst to work with our group to study the biogeochemistry of mercury. This is a full-time annual appointment with benefits.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE: 1) Mercury and methylmercury analysis by GC-ICP-MS, CVAF and other techniques. 2) Other instrumental environmental analyses, potentially including GC, IC, LC-ICP-MS, ICP-OES, elemental analysis, and DOC analysis. 3) Field work on the biogeochemistry of Hg methylation. Candidates should be willing and able to do physical labor and to conduct field work under adverse conditions. The position may involve travel to field sites in the US and Canada.
REQUIREMENTS: M.S. in a relevant field (e.g. chemistry, geochemistry) or a B.S. plus two years of specific related experience in analytical chemistry is required. The successful candidate will have significant experience in analytical instrumental analysis, preferably analysis of trace metals. Other desirable skills include experience in trace–metal clean technique, experience setting up and using databases, experience with anaerobic techniques, Arc/GPS, and field biogeochemistry. Familiarity with data analysis in Excel and/or Access is needed. A current valid driver’s license is required, and a US or Canadian passport. The successful candidate must clear a thorough background investigation prior to employment.
SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
