Post-Doc - Enzymology and Ecophysiology of DMSP metabolism in Phytoplankton
A Post-Doctoral research position is available immediately for qualified applicants interested in work on the enzymology of DMSP metabolism and its role in the ecophysiology of key phytoplankton species including Phaeocystis antarctica. DMSP (dimethylsulfoniopropionate) is a major osmolyte and potential antioxidant in many marine algal species. It is also the major precursor of the climatically-active sulfur gas, dimethylsulfide (DMS) in the ocean. Successful applicants will have an earned Ph.D. and a strong record demonstrating potential for research productivity. Applicants with experience in protein chemistry and purification are particularly encouraged to apply. Employment will be through the University of South in Mobile, but the research will be carried out at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (http://www.disl.org), located 40 miles south of Mobile on the beautiful coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
Interested individuals with strong backgrounds in the natural sciences and with a strong motivation to succeed in research should contact Ron Kiene, Department of Marine Sciences, University of South Alabama, LSCB 25, Mobile, Alabama, e-mail rkiene@jaguar1.usouthal.edu or rkiene@disl.org for more information.
