NOAA Lakewide Management Plan Coordinator
NOAA LAKEWIDE MANAGEMENT PLAN COORDINATOR
In 2006, NOAA established the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Team to identify, acknowledge and apply NOAA’s full range of capabilities, within and across the region, to improve its productivity and value to stakeholders. Lakewide Management Plans (LaMP) have been established for each Great Lakes under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement of 1978 and in Section 118 of the Clean Water Act. They are holistic plans of action to assess, restore, protect and monitor the ecosystem health of each individual Great Lake. This position will work to integrate NOAA’s products and services within these plans. This position will be located at NOAA’s Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory in Ann Arbor Michigan.
Duties Include:
- Understand and maintain awareness of the full suite of NOAA products and services in broad terms to provide information and foster coordination between NOAA and the LaMP Teams.
- Analyze the current management plan to identify existing Great Lakes needs for which NOAA can contribute and coordinate NOAA’s programmatic and scientific work to provide products and services to fulfill existing identified plan needs.
- Analyze the current management plans to identify gaps in the plans and incorporate NOAAs unique contribution and mission to the Great Lakes within each plan.
- Work with LaMP managers at U.S. EPA on plan content.
- Represent NOAA within each LaMP process.
- Coordinate reporting of activity to NOAA and to the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
- Consult regularly with NOAA team members, partners, and the Great Lakes community to identify new or emerging issue or opportunities.
Qualifications:
The incumbent will have a Master’s degree or relevant field experience (e.g., environmental science, or resource management) and experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment, knowledge of Great Lakes priorities and issues. Preference is give to those with experience working at NOAA or as a NOAA Knauss Fellow. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team; excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal skill; ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize among competing goals; experience with facilitation, outreach and engagement required. Twelve month contractual position with opportunity for renewal based upon funding availability. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
