Aquarium Biologist 1 – Fish and Invertebrates
Primary Duties: Under general supervision is responsible for the daily care and interpretation of temperate fishes and invertebrates. Perform monitoring/maintenance of aquarium exhibits and life support systems, animal feeding, cleaning/sterilization of display and holding tanks, monitor water quality and repairing and setting up/dismantling of exhibits. Supervise volunteers performing animal husbandry tasks. Perform and participate in informal and formal aquarium interpretation programs. Assist in animal acquisition, field collecting, laboratory activities, records maintenance, and preparation of reports. Serve as a customer service liaison through daily contacts with visitors and suppliers, providing information and answering questions.
Required Qualifications: Requires six months full-time work experience in aquarium systems maintenance and marine animal care, and two years of college courses in Biology, Zoology, Oceanography or a related field (or a combination of education, training and experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work). This position requires the ability to obtain a current valid Washington State driver’s license. Certification for open water scuba diving is required; employment will not be offered until a check out dive is successfully completed.
