Postdoctoral Position: Phytoplankton and Trace Metals
A postdoctoral position is immediately available (July 2008) at the University of Western Ontario and/or The University of Maine in measuring physiological changes in phytoplankton reflecting changes of the trace metal nutrition. The funded study will involve the development and use of flow cytometry, PAM fluorescence, and FloCam techniques to study laboratory isolates and natural free-living and symbiotic photosynthetic protists. Applicants should possess a doctoral degree related to phytoplankton ecology or the application of the above instruments. A broad vision of the concept of ecosystem health and the responses of photosynthetic protists to changes the levels of human activities will be appreciated. Candidates will be required to travel for extended periods as part of the field program. This position is funded for one year, with a second year possible based on performance evaluation. Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae and names of three references to both Dr. Mark Wells (mlwells@maine.edu), School of Marine Sciences, University of Maine, and Dr. Charles Trick (trick@uwo.ca), Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, UWO.
