Research Associate – Marine Microbial Physiology
Join our world-class research team in Hawaii to develop biofuels from marine phytoplankton.
Your responsibilities: Carry out production experiments using cultivation systems ranging from standard laboratory batch cultures to large scale. Analyze samples and data to quantify productivity and physiological state of marine phytoplankton cultures and their relation to measured environmental variables, using a variety of standard techniques and advanced sensor systems. Schedule, run and track research projects to keep them running smoothly. Maintain and support related cultivation systems and analytical equipment.
Your qualifications:
Education: MS or BS in marine or aquatic biology, microbiology, or related fields.
Experience: Three to five (3-5) years experience in single cell or plant tissue culture, with emphasis on physiology. Experience in standard techniques for measurement of biomass, growth rate, biochemical constituents, and environmental variables that influence primary production.
Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinate technical activities, and prioritize work loads within an independent work group. Excellent organizational, analytical and technical skills, along with demonstrated initiative and innovative thinking within a team environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with a sense of urgency and the ability to work under tight schedules.
Most desirable: Research experience on photosynthesis, physiology, taxonomy and ecology of marine phytoplankton.
