Postdoctoral Researcher – Effects of gas on sedimentary processes
A Postdoc position is available in the Department of Oceanography at Florida State University to study the physics and biogeochemistry of coastal sediments containing gas bubbles. Gas accumulations produced by microbial metabolic activities influence permeability, compressibility, and solute dispersal in shallow coastal sediments and, thus, can affect diagenetic processes. We initiated a project quantifying the influence of embedded gas bubbles on sediment characteristics and biogeochemical processes. The postdoctoral scientist will work on this project and conduct laboratory experiments and field measurements in the Northern Gulf of Mexico. The candidate should have a strong background in physics and chemistry, a proven research and publication record, and experience in experimental design and field work. The scientist will supervise undergraduate students working in our lab and be responsible for organizing and leading field research in the Northern Gulf of Mexico. The initial appointment is for 1-year, with the expectation of a second and a third year of employment. Please send your application, including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research interests and names and contact information of three referees, via email to Markus Huettel, Department of Oceanography, Florida State University at: mhuettel@ocean.fsu.edu. Review of applications will start April 15, 2008 and will continue until the position is filled. Florida State University is an equal opportunity employer.
