Laboratory Researcher
A Laboratory Researcher position is available in the Phytoplankton Trace Metal Physiology and Biogeochemistry lab within the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, located at the Newark Campus of Rutgers University – minutes away from New York City. A hallmark of this lab’s work is the use of interdisciplinary approaches rooted in phytoplankton ecology, physiology, field-based oceanography, aquatic and analytical chemistry and modern molecular techniques. The successful candidate will be trained in these aspects; specific duties will include maintenance of marine phytoplankton cultures, sample collection, analysis of metals in seawater and phytoplankton cells, instrument maintenance, occasional field work in coastal waters of New Jersey (with the option of open ocean cruises to the Sargasso Sea, the Equatorial North Atlantic and the California Upwelling System), and may include occasional day trips to facilities at the New Brunswick campus. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree with specialization in either Biology (Cell, or Molecular) or Chemistry, plus previous laboratory research experience, ideally in marine or freshwater environmental science. This position is funded for two years with an anticipated start date of September 2008. Continued employment will depend on availability of funding and individual performance.
