Doctoral position
The candidate will work in the international research project ZAWa (“Water in Central Asia”) funded by the Federal Foreign Office. The project aims at providing a basis for solving the cross-border water related problems in the Central Asian states by means of sophisticated monitoring and modelling technologies as well as knowledge transfer approaches. The position will be based in Potsdam.
Tasks
The main goal of the research work is to determine the hydrochemical and radiochemical water composition of the Aral Sea and of its groundwater tributaries in the Amudarya Delta. Based on these data flow patterns of groundwater aquifers and their interaction with the Aral Sea water will be modelled. Analytical work includes application of sensitive analytical techniques for field measurements of low Radon aktivities. The position will be based in Potsdam.
Premises
• Master (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Geosciences
• Interest in analytical work
• Expierence/interest in hydrochemical modelling
• Willingness for extenisive field work
• Ability and willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team and to communicate with national and international partners
• Good command of English language
Start: 1 August 2008
Duration: 3 years
Salary: ½ EG 13 TVöD
