Teaching experience
Teaching courses in Ecology, Marine Ecology, Toxicology and Pollution in aquatic environments to the graduate engineering students.
Analytical skills:
Worked on the marine pollution monitoring studies of Bay of Bengal. The main responsibilities are to attend the off shore cruises for collection and analysis of physico-chemical and biological samples. Monitoring of rivers and estuaries from the pollution point of view.
Collection and analysis of physico-chemical characteristics like DO, BOD, PP, Salinity, Alkalinity, pH, TSS, TDS, Petroleum Hydrocarbon, Trace metals (As, Fe, Mn, Ni, Co, Cr, Cu, Pb, Hg, etc), Nutrients (NO2, NO3, PO4, NH3, SiO4) etc of water sample and Organic carbon, Texture, Trace metals (As, Fe, Mn, Ni, Co, Cr, Cu, Pb, Hg, etc) etc. of sediment samples.
Biological work includes the qualitative and quantitative analysis of planktons, benthic organisms and phytopigments (Chlorophyll and gilvin) and microbiological studies of pathogenic bacteria
Instruments handled:
Calibration and operation of analytical instruments like spectrophotometer, Flame photometer, AAS, Gas Chromatograph, Ion Chromatograph, ICP-MS, HPLC, stereo microscopes, biological microscopes, laminar-air flow, incubators, autoclaves etc.
Attended several cruises off the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea for the collection of samples and well acquainted with the sampling instruments like Grab, corer, dredger, nets (gears), CTD probe, radiometers, current meters etc.
Computational skills:
Well conversant with computers and different application software packages like Statistica 6.0, SPSS 11.0, Surfer 8.0 and ERDAS Imagine 8.5. Familiar with programming language C and ecological modeling. Experienced in processing satellite imagery.
Report writing and coordination with other departments (State and Central Pollution Control Boards) regarding pollution assessment and management.
