| DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES AND BACKGROUND |
| |
My objective is to obtain an internship or career that will further my knowledge of ocean and biological conservation. I would like to be involved in public education on conservation and sustainability.
I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in marine biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
While being a student at UCSC, I was also an intern for the Santa Cruz Wharf Seafood Consumption Study. This was a pilot study that is still in process. My role was to interview fishermen on the Santa Cruz Wharf. The seafood they caught and what parts they ate was important for analysis on mercury content, which another team administrated. After interviews, I organized the results and entered the data into Microsoft Excel. I attended weekly meetings where fellow interns and our supervisors discussed results. I had to be social, interactive, and a team member in this study.
My relevant coursework includes: organic chemistry + lab, calculus, physics + lab, marine environment, marine conservation, genetics, behavioral ecology, ecology, community ecology, marine mammals + lab, evolution, and ichthyology + lab.
Many of these courses required me to give presentations and to work in groups. I am very team-oriented. A few years ago, my fellow students and I wrote a group paper and gave a group presentation on the effects of T. gondii in southern sea otters. We received a grade of A+ on both the paper and presentation. On another fun project, my group and I reconstructed a fish skull for our ichthyology lab assignment.
