| DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES AND BACKGROUND | |
I measured nutrients colormetricly and chlorophyll fluorometricly. Water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, and turbidity were measured in the field using an Endeco/YSI 6000 UPG, multi-parameter, water quality monitor sonde. I have gained some knowledge on the use of a Doppler current sensor 3900 by Aanderaa Instruments. As a result of my thesis, I have had to deal with novel and rigorous data sets and the problems associated with the methodology I choose to use in the study. In addition, I measured suspended particulate matter, preserved viruses with gluteraldhyde, and enumerated free and attached viruses. Viruses were observed via epifluorescence microscopy and the nucleic acid stain SYBR Gold. Viruses were quantified using Sigma Scan Pro 5 and Sigma Stat, Systat, and SPSS was used for statistical analysis and Sigma Plot for graphical representations of these data.
