Overseas Aid to Belize with the TA
I took part in several selection weekends held by the Territorial Army for one of 10 places open to Jersey students and won a place. The three-week exercise involved renovating a scout mess hall and constructing an ablutions block in Belize. I was actively involved in carpentry, bricklaying and other manual tasks. Conditions were hot and difficult and our accommodation was in the local barracks, we successfully finished the job on time.
