After completing my Ph.D. in the department of Science and Technology Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2007, I believe that my background and education reflects a commitment and ability to conduct research and craft policy that can inform development initiatives in developing countries and elsewhere around the world. My dissertation, entitled “Environmental Degradation, Food Security and Climate Change: An STS Perspectives on Sustainable Development in Western Kenya” investigates how diverse stakeholders conceive, share and implement knowledge about soil conservation and climate change, and work towards enhancing food security. Through this research, I have developed excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical research skills, methods and tools that can facilitate the implementation of highly complex issues.

Furthermore, my doctorate builds and draws on my expertise and experience over the past ten years working under two different agricultural research institutions, International Livestock Centre for Africa (now ILRI) and International Centre for Research in Agroforestry—ICRAF (now World Agroforestry Centre) both based in Nairobi, Kenya. Both centers are under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) that are focused on promoting sustainable agriculture in developing countries. While working under the Consultative Group (CG) centers, I have contributed to numerous activities in this area of agricultural development and was one of the two “Gender and Diversity Focal Points’ representatives at ICRAF.
