| DO WE HAVE METHODS FOR HOLISTIC STUDIES OF NATURE, SOCIETY AND WATER? - PRELIMINARY EXPERIENCE FROM A CASE STUDY IN KAMPALA AND LAKE VICTORIA, UGANDA. |
 |
| The aim of the study is to develop methods for multidisciplinary research over the border of disciplines, to be able to make a holistic theory for interpretation of both nature and society. Research in nature and society is based on two different scientific traditions. Traditionally problems dealing with interactions between nature and society are considered only from one perspective.
In Kampala and Lake Victoria, we have chosen the unifying theme water and an historical approach in our search for causes for interactions. Over the last 100 years Kampala has changed from a village to metropolis and simultaneously Lake Victoria has been through a dramatic development. We are looking for incidents and changes in the society affecting the lake and vice versa. What constrains makes it difficult for wholesome planning and smart decisions?
Our method for painting a wholesome picture of the history is to establish a hierarchic perspective on the events, and to use different analytical tools on co-operating and not co-operating systems. |
