| LONG-TERM TRENDS IN WATER QUALITY PARAMETERS OF THE RIO GRANDE AND THEIR ASSOCIATION WITH LAND USE CHANGES |
 |
| Long-term measurements of discharge, conductivity, pH, Ca, Mg, Na, K, SO4, Cl, Fl, SiO2 and total solids are analyzed from USGS data collected from 1975-1999. Data were collected at six sampling stations located along the upper 450 km of the river, and include stations above, at and below the city of Albuquerque. Preliminary results show general water quality improvement over 25 years at lower stations around Albuquerque, and some water quality declines in the upper reaches. Changes in land use in the lower reaches around Albuquerque and their relationship to these parameters are being analyzed by classification of Landsat imagery. |
