| ANOSTRACAN ATLAS PROJECT |
 |
| The literature for anostracans from the United States (USA) was surveyed to retrieve the first records for the 48 contiguous states and their counties. State checklists and county-level state maps were generated based on these records. These records were also compiled in a pair of USA maps for each anostracan, one state-level and the other county-level, to present a preliminary visual summary of the species distribution. Nine states, all of them west of the Mississippi River, reported 10 or more species. The highest number of species per state reported from east of the Mississippi was 4 (5 states). Half of the states had records from only 2 or fewer of their counties. Eight states had either no county-level records or no records at all in the literature. Three species have been recorded from their type localities only. Eight genera and 6 anostracan families have representatives within this area. |
