| BIO-OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER PLUME AND ADJACENT SHELF |
 |
| Two cruises were conducted in April and October 2000 in the region of the Mississippi River as part of a joint project designed to examine the spatial and temporal coupling between the water column and flux of organic matter to the seabed. During these cruises, “primary” stations were selected to represent different water-mass types: turbid, highly productive shelf water and the open Gulf . Stations were occupied and sampled for in situ measurements of temperature, salinity, fluorescence, Lu, Ed, surface downwelling irradiance, bb, inherent optical properties and above-water remote sensing reflectance. SeaWiFS imagery was obtained for each cruise day and derived products were compared to in situ measurements. Sampling procedures, analysis protocols and the temporal and spatial relationship in bio-optical properties will be presented. |
